3 Tips to Make Yourself a Priority

Hey! My name is Lo and I am the founder of Passion & Growth, a subscription box to help women learn to love themselves unconditionally and unapologetically. Self-care and personal growth has become increasingly important to me over the last 3 years. 

In the past, I was under the false impression that putting myself first was selfish. If I took time for self-care, I was being too self-centered. If I was focused on my own goals and career, I was narrow-minded. If I decided to dress up and do my makeup, I was being narcissistic. Anyone else ever have these thoughts, or just me? 

Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s not selfish, self-centered, narrow-minded, or narcissistic to make yourself a priority, even if your brain tries to convince you otherwise. Focusing on yourself allows a time for reflection, re-connection, and growth. Plus, you can’t pour from an empty cup! In order to help others, you must first help yourself. 

Take time to reconnect with yourself this week, add some additional self-care into your routine, and don’t feel guilty about it! 

Here are a few suggestions:

  • You don’t have to say yes to everyone and everything. 
  • Breathe. Take some quiet moments for deep breaths to slow your breathing, calm your mind, and help you be present in the moment.
  • Recognize when it’s time for rest.
